Semi Automatic vs. Fully Automatic

Which Is Right for You? Compare the key criteria to make an informed decision for your production needs.

Semi Automatic

Target Output 150–1100 bph
Capital Cost Lower — practical for new operations and market entry
SKU Flexibility High — mold changeovers are faster and simpler
Labour Requirement One operator per machine for preform loading
Floor Space Compact — fits within standard factory bays
Maintenance Complexity Lower — fewer automated subsystems to maintain
Best Fit For: New operations, multi-SKU lines, 150–1100 bph range, small-to-medium production facilities

Fully Automatic

Target Output 1200–20,000+ bph
Capital Cost Выше — justified when single-SKU volumes are consistently high
SKU Flexibility Lower — changeovers require more time and setup
Labour Requirement Minimal — preform loading is automated
Floor Space Larger — requires dedicated production hall layout
Maintenance Complexity Выше — automated conveyor, sorter, and servo systems require specialist skills
Best Fit For: Single-SKU, high-volume operations consistently exceeding 1500 bph

Ready to Find the Right Model for Your Production?

Our technical team is available to review your bottle drawing, confirm preform compatibility, and recommend the HGS model and heater configuration that best suits your application — whether you are setting up a new line in Colombia, expanding capacity in Latin America, or sourcing equipment for any global destination.

How to Select the Right Semi Automatic Blow Molding Machine

Four criteria determine which HGS model matches your production requirement. Work through each one in order before finalising your selection.

Step 1

Define Your Target Container

Start with the bottle drawing, not the machine catalogue. Identify the container volume, maximum diameter, total height, neck finish size, and target wall thickness. These four dimensions directly map to the machine parameters that must be verified: pillar space (width), stretching stroke (height), mold size range (diameter), and blowing pressure (wall thickness and material).

Step 2

Match Output Rate to Your Filling Line

Check the rated capacity of your filling equipment in containers per hour and work backwards to determine the required blow moulding output. Over-specifying the machine output creates surplus inventory; under-specifying creates a production bottleneck. The HGS range spans 150 to 1100 bph — identify the band that matches your filling line without a significant buffer in either direction, and select the model whose rated output sits within that band.

Step 3

Confirm Material and Preform Specification

Material choice affects which heater model is appropriate and what blowing pressure range you need. PET and PETG process at similar temperature ranges; PC and PCTG require higher conditioning temperatures and longer heating dwell times. Confirm your preform neck finish size against the heater model's neck diameter range — the HGJ-B handles up to 130 mm wide-mouth formats, while the HGJ-CL is optimised for narrow-neck 68 mm formats — before finalising the heater specification alongside the main machine.

Step 4

Plan Utilities and Floor Loading

Each HGS model has specific compressed air, cooling water, and electrical supply requirements. Verify that your facility's compressed air system can sustain 3.0 MPA at the required flow rate for continuous production — undersized compressors are the most common cause of poor bottle quality on new installations. For the 20L model, also confirm that the factory floor's load-bearing capacity accommodates the 1500 kg machine weight plus mold weight before finalising the installation bay.

Matching the Right Heater Model

The heater is a critical companion to the main blow moulding unit. Selecting the correct model for your preform and neck finish specification is as important as selecting the machine model itself.

HGJ-B — Wide-Mouth Jar Heater

  • Power Supply: 3-Phase 4-Wire
  • Efficiency: 500–1200 pcs/hr
  • Using Power: 5–8 kW
  • Mold Wall Thickness: 2.5–4.2 mm
  • Preform Holder: 18 / 36
  • Neck Diameter Range: 130 / 65 mm
  • Mold Height: 160 mm
  • Size: 1880 × 720 × 1200 mm
  • Weight: 400 kg

Recommended for wide-mouth jar formats, cosmetic containers with large neck finishes, and 20-liter water cooler bottles. The higher preform holder positions (18/36) accommodate a wider range of preform body diameters.

HGJ-CL — Narrow-Neck Bottle Heater

  • Power Supply: 3-Phase 4-Wire
  • Efficiency: 200–2100 pcs/hr
  • Using Power: 5–8 kW
  • Mold Wall Thickness: 2.5–4.2 mm
  • Preform Holder: 96
  • Neck Diameter Range: 68 mm
  • Mold Height: 160 mm
  • Size: 1500 × 600 × 1100 mm
  • Weight: 250 kg

The HGJ-CL's 96-position preform holder and narrower footprint make it the preferred choice for beverage, pharmaceutical, and edible oil lines running standard narrow-neck PET preforms at higher throughput rates in a more compact heater layout.

Advantages of Semi Automatic Blow Molding

Lower Capital Investment

Semi automatic machines require significantly less upfront investment than fully automatic lines of equivalent bottle capacity. For operations establishing a new product range or validating market demand before scaling, this lower entry cost reduces financial risk while providing access to the same bottle quality and material versatility as larger automated systems.

Multi-SKU Flexibility

Mold changeovers on a semi automatic platform are faster and less disruptive than on high-speed automatic systems, because the simpler preform loading mechanism does not require reconfiguration of a fully automated conveyor and sorter system. Operations producing multiple bottle formats — different sizes, neck finishes, or materials — on a rotating schedule benefit directly from this flexibility without sacrificing cycle consistency.

Широкая совместимость с материалами

PET, PETG, PC, PCTG, and PP are all processable across the HGS range. This breadth of material compatibility means a single machine platform can serve cosmetics, food, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and industrial packaging applications — markets that often have different regulatory requirements for container material and that benefit from the ability to switch between polymer types without investing in a dedicated machine for each one.

Consistent Blow Cycle Repeatability

Once process parameters are established, the automated blow cycle — mold close, stretch, high-pressure blow, exhaust, open — executes with the same timing and pressure profile on every cycle. This repeatability is what separates a well-calibrated semi automatic platform from purely manual production, and it is the foundation of consistent wall thickness distribution and dimensional accuracy across the production run.

Compact Installation Footprint

The HGS series machines range from 1400 × 500 mm (1L model) to 2270 × 860 mm (20L model) — footprints that fit within the factory bay allocations of most small-to-medium production facilities without structural modifications. Combined with the heater unit, the full installation is still considerably more compact than a fully automatic blow moulding line of equivalent container range, leaving floor space available for filling, labelling, and packaging equipment.

Straightforward Maintenance

The mechanical architecture of a semi automatic blow moulding machine is less complex than a fully automatic system — fewer servo axes, no automated preform conveyors, and a simpler electrical cabinet. Maintenance technicians familiar with pneumatic and basic electrical systems can handle most routine servicing tasks without specialist training. Spare parts for the HGS range are stocked in our warehouse and dispatched within 24–48 hours for critical components, minimising unplanned downtime on the production line.
