1. What Exactly Is a One-Step Injection Stretch Blow Moulding Machine?

Satu langkah mesin pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan — also referred to in the industry as a one-step ISBM machine or one-step injection stretch blow molding machine — is a class of plastics processing equipment in which the three core operations of preform injection moulding, temperature conditioning, and biaxial stretch-blow moulding are carried out in a single integrated machine, without any intermediate cooling, storage, or reheating step for the preform. The finished hollow container exits the machine in one uninterrupted production cycle.

This stands in direct contrast to the conventional two-step (or reheat-stretch-blow) process, where an injection moulding machine first produces cold preforms that are stored separately, transported to a reheating oven, conditioned to the correct temperature profile, and then stretch-blow moulded in a separate machine. The two-step process requires more floor space, more energy (because the preform must be reheated from ambient temperature), more labour, and introduces additional risk of contamination or moisture absorption in the preform — all disadvantages that the one-step process eliminates by design.

The operational sequence on a one-step mesin pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan typically follows four stages on modern 4-station platforms: (1) Injection station — plastic resin is melted by the screw-and-barrel assembly and injected into the injection mould to form a preform; (2) Temperature conditioning station — the preform, still retaining heat from injection, passes through a temperature-regulating station where the thermal profile is evened out and the neck finish is stabilised; (3) Stretch-blow station — a stretch rod extends axially through the preform while high-pressure air (typically 2.0–3.5 MPa) inflates it radially to fill the blow mould cavity; (4) Take-out station — the finished container is ejected, trimmed if required, and conveyed away. The rotary table indexes continuously through all four stations, so each cycle produces a finished bottle. On 3-station machines (such as the compact HGY50-V3-EV model targeting small-batch cosmetics producers), stations 2 and 3 are combined, which reduces machine footprint at the cost of slightly reduced process window flexibility.

2. Action Mode | Structure Type | Manufacturing Architecture

Action Mode

Rotary table / turntable indexing. The machine structure uses a precision-indexed rotating platen that moves preforms between stations. The injection unit operates in a fixed position while the rotary table brings the preform carrier to each station in sequence. Drive options include servo-hydraulic (standard models), servo pump hybrid (HGYS series), and fully electric servo drive (HGY-EV series). Servo-driven clamping provides position-controlled mould closing at programmable speed profiles, reducing flash and improving neck-finish repeatability.

Jenis Struktur

Vertical injection unit with horizontal blow station. The injection barrel is oriented vertically (in most 3-station configurations) or at an angle (in some 4-station heavy-duty models), injecting downward into the preform cavity. The blow mould opens and closes horizontally. This arrangement minimises the machine’s floor footprint relative to its injection capacity and allows efficient use of clamping force. The overall machine frame is a welded steel structure with precision-ground tie bars, and the blow mould mounting platens are typically surface-hardened.

Manufacturing Architecture

Single machine, multiple stations, continuous cycle. The key architectural decision is the number of stations — 3 or 4 (with some 6-station configurations available for higher-volume specialty applications). A 4-station machine uses a dedicated temperature conditioning station, giving the process engineer a larger window to adjust the preform temperature profile independently of the injection cycle time. This is critical when running multi-layer coatings, thick-wall pharmaceutical bottles, or materials with narrow process windows such as PPSU or PC.

3. Material System — What Can an ISBM Machine Process?

One of the defining advantages of a one-step mesin pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan over reheat-stretch-blow equipment is its ability to process a significantly wider range of thermoplastic materials — including many resins that cannot be reheated reliably without degradation. The hot-preform process means the resin is stretched immediately after injection, while its thermal and crystalline state is still controllable. The following material families are routinely run on modern one-step ISBM machines.

PET / PETG

The most common resin in the product range. PET produces crystal-clear, high-barrier containers for water, carbonated beverages, edible oils, and pharmaceutical syrups. PETG offers enhanced chemical resistance and improved impact toughness, making it preferred for cosmetic packaging where clarity and premium aesthetics are required.

PP / PPSU

Polypropylene provides excellent chemical resistance and can withstand steam sterilisation — critical for baby bottle and medical device applications. PPSU (polyphenylsulfone) offers high-temperature resistance and transparency, used in high-end baby products and laboratory containers where repeated autoclave cycles are required.

PC / Tritan / PCTG

Polycarbonate produces extremely high-clarity, impact-resistant containers with outstanding dimensional stability. Tritan (copolyester) and PCTG are BPA-free alternatives to PC used increasingly in drinkware, baby bottles, and reusable water bottles — a product category growing strongly in the Colombian and Andean market.

PS / ABS / PLA

PS and ABS enable opaque or coloured containers for household chemicals, personal care, and display packaging. PLA (polylactic acid) is a bio-based, compostable resin gaining traction in Colombian markets where sustainability commitments are influencing procurement decisions. One-step ISBM is one of the few container processes capable of running PLA without the degradation risks associated with reheating.

4. Five Key Advantages of Investing in a One-Step ISBM Machine

01

Up to 40% Energy Saving vs. Two-Step Processes

Because the preform is blown while still carrying residual heat from injection, the energy-intensive reheating step is eliminated. Independent testing data across multiple installations consistently demonstrates energy consumption reductions of 35–40% compared with equivalent RSBM lines. For operators in Colombia facing rising electricity tariffs, this directly impacts per-unit production economics and reduces the carbon footprint of the packaging operation.

02

Superior Neck Finish Quality and Dimensional Precision

The bottle neck and thread form are injection-moulded to the finished dimension in the same cycle — they are never reheated or deformed by blow-moulding pressure. This gives the one-step process an inherent advantage in neck-finish dimensional accuracy: thread runout, ovality, and seal-face flatness are substantially tighter than in two-step RSBM, reducing cap-application failures on high-speed filling lines and leak rates in pharmaceutical dispensing applications.

03

Broader Material Compatibility Including BPA-Free and Bio-Based Resins

The one-step proses pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan can run PP, PPSU, PC, Tritan, PCTG, and PLA — materials that are difficult or impossible to process on conventional RSBM lines due to the narrow processing window they present when reheated from cold. This gives ISBM operators access to premium product categories (medical, infant, BPA-free drinkware) that command significantly higher margins than standard PET water bottles.

04

Compact Footprint and Reduced Labour Requirements

A single mesin pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan satu langkah replaces two separate machines plus the intermediate preform handling and storage infrastructure of a two-step line. Machine dimensions for a mid-range 4-station unit (e.g., 4,200 × 1,400 × 2,900mm) are very competitive with the combined footprint of an injection moulding machine and an RSBM machine plus conveyor. Fewer pieces of equipment also translate directly into lower maintenance overhead and a smaller operational team — meaningful for start-up operations in Bogotá, Medellín, or Cali where skilled plastics technicians are in short supply.

05

ASB and AOKI Mould Compatibility for Existing Tooling

Several models in the current ISBM machine range are engineered to accept tooling previously designed for ASB-12M, AOKI-250, and ASB-70DPH machines — the global industry standard platforms. For businesses replacing or supplementing existing ISBM capacity, this mould compatibility means the substantial capital investment in existing injection and blow mould tooling can be retained without re-cutting, dramatically improving the payback calculation for a machine replacement or second-line investment.

5. Technical Performance Parameters — ISBM Machine Series Overview

6. Surface Treatment | Environmental Grade | Operating Conditions

Mould Surface Treatment

Injection moulds and blow moulds for one-step ISBM machines are typically manufactured from S136 stainless steel (or equivalent H13 tool steel), hardened to HRC 48–52. Cavity surfaces are mirror-polished to Ra ≤ 0.05 µm for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications, or textured (EDM or bead-blast) for containers requiring matt or frosted appearance. Parting line edges are precision-ground to minimise flash, which is critical when running transparent PET or Tritan at high mould temperatures. Blow moulds may use beryllium-copper alloy inserts in the base and shoulder regions for improved heat extraction.

Gred Alam Sekitar

Standard ISBM machines are rated for operation in ISO Class 8 (ISO 14644) clean room environments, which is adequate for the majority of food, personal care, and consumer pharmaceutical packaging. For injectables or sterile medical device packaging, ISO Class 7 or Class 6 clean room integration is available with appropriate enclosures and HEPA filtration. The fully electric (EV) series machines are particularly suited to clean room deployment because they eliminate the hydraulic oil circuit entirely, removing any risk of oil mist contamination of the container interior — a compliance requirement under several pharmaceutical GMP standards.

Keadaan Operasi

Recommended installation environment: ambient temperature 15–35°C, relative humidity ≤ 85% non-condensing. Chilled water supply at 8–15°C is required for mould cooling, with flow rates depending on cycle time and resin. Compressed air supply: low-pressure (0.6–0.8 MPa) for machine actuation and high-pressure (2.0–3.5 MPa) for blowing, requiring two separate compressor circuits or a single compressor with booster. In the context of Colombian highland installations (Bogotá elevation 2,600m), reduced atmospheric pressure increases booster sizing requirements slightly — a detail worth flagging to your supplier at the quotation stage.

7. Typical Failure Modes in ISBM Machine Operations

Understanding common failure patterns is as important as knowing the process advantages. Based on field service data across multiple installations, the following are the most frequently encountered issues on one-step mesin pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan and how they are typically resolved.

Uneven Wall Thickness

Caused by temperature gradients in the preform, misaligned stretch rod, or asymmetric blow air pressure. Resolution: calibrate the temperature conditioning station zone by zone; verify stretch rod concentricity to ±0.05mm; check high-pressure air valve response time. Servo-driven clamping systems substantially reduce this failure mode compared with hydraulic-only machines.

Neck Thread Dimension Drift

Occurs when the injection mould neck insert wear exceeds tolerance, or when injection hold pressure settings change due to resin viscosity variation between batches. Resolution: monitor neck OD and thread form with go/no-go gauges every 2–4 hours; adjust hold pressure compensation if resin IV drops; replace neck inserts on schedule rather than condition-based to avoid gradual drift.

Short-Shot / Underfill Preforms

Short shots typically arise from nozzle tip freeze-off, degraded check valve, or resin moisture content exceeding 0.04% for PET. Resolution: verify resin drying to target moisture spec before running; check nozzle tip contact pressure; replace check ring at the recommended interval. Nano far-infrared heating rings used on current machines improve barrel temperature uniformity and reduce short-shot frequency versus conventional band heaters.

Hydraulic Valve Leakage (Hydraulic Models)

YUKEN hydraulic control valves used in the HGY-V4 series offer long service life but can develop spool wear after extended high-cycle operation. Resolution: use the recommended hydraulic oil specification (typically ISO VG 46 anti-wear hydraulic oil); replace oil and filter at the documented service interval; switch to servo-hydraulic or fully electric (EV) configuration for installations running 24/7 where valve service access is constrained.

Blow Mould Flash at Parting Line

Flash appears at the blow mould parting line when mould clamping force is insufficient for the blow pressure, or when the mould parting faces have developed wear. Resolution: verify blowing clamping force setting matches the projected area of the cavity at the operating blow pressure; check parting face flatness with a feeler gauge; re-grind parting faces if gap exceeds 0.02mm.

8. Recommended Configuration Guide by Application

Matching the right mesin pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan configuration to your product and volume requirements is the most important decision in the equipment selection process. The following guidance covers the most common scenarios encountered by new entrants to the Colombian and Latin American packaging market.

Start-up / Trial Production (≤ 1M bottles/year)

Disyorkan: HGY50-V3-EV or HGYS150-V4. The 3-station fully electric HGY50-V3-EV is ideal for cosmetics, specialty supplements, and premium drinkware producers who need flexibility across many SKUs with low to medium annual volumes. Its 3.8×1.2×2.5m footprint fits in compact factory spaces. The HGYS150-V4 4-station servo model adds the independent temperature conditioning station, giving process engineers more control when developing new container geometries or running non-PET materials.

Mid-Volume Food and Beverage (1–10M bottles/year)

Disyorkan: HGY200-V4 or HGY200-V4-B. The 300 kN injection clamping force and up to 12-cavity blow moulds allow throughput scaling across a broad range of container formats from 20mL perfume vials to 2.5L juice bottles. The HGY200-V4-B variant is compatible with AOKI-250 tooling, making it the first choice for operations looking to replace or supplement an existing AOKI platform without re-investing in mould tooling.

Pharmaceutical / Medical Device Packaging

Disyorkan: HGYS150-V4-EV or HGY150-V4-EV (fully electric). The elimination of hydraulic oil circuits in the EV series is a key compliance enabler for GMP-regulated pharmaceutical packaging environments. Fully electric servo drive also provides the enhanced repeatability and data-logging capability increasingly required for 21 CFR Part 11 or INVIMA process validation documentation in Colombia and other PAHO-regulated markets.

Large-Format Containers (5L–20L)

Disyorkan: HGY650-V4. Designed specifically for large-format containers including 18–20L water dispenser bottles (PC or PET), 5–12L liquid detergent containers, and large agricultural chemical drums. With 400 kN injection and blow clamping forces, upper mould stroke of 1,070mm, and blow mould stroke of 175+175mm, this machine covers container formats that no smaller-footprint ISBM platform can reach.

9. Application Scenarios

The range of produk pengacuan tamparan regangan suntikan achievable on a one-step ISBM machine spans industries from consumer beauty to industrial chemicals. Each scenario below represents an active product category in the Colombian and Latin American packaging market.

Cosmetics and Personal Care Packaging

Serum bottles, toner bottles, lotion dispensers, and perfume containers in PETG, Tritan, or PC. Colombia’s growing domestic cosmetics sector — including brands exported through the Pacific Alliance trade zone — increasingly demands premium, glass-look packaging producible only on ISBM equipment. Small-batch flexibility is critical in this sector.

Pharmaceutical Bottles and Dispensers

Oral liquid medicine bottles, eye drop containers, supplement capsule jars, and nasal spray bodies. GMP-compliant ISBM machines with servo drive and clean room integration are the preferred production platform for INVIMA-registered pharmaceutical manufacturers across Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador.

Baby Products and BPA-Free Drinkware

Baby bottles, sippy cups, toddler drinkware, and sports water bottles in PP, PPSU, Tritan, or PCTG. Latin America’s birth rate and rising health awareness is driving strong growth in premium infant product categories. ISBM is the only process capable of economically producing multi-material, BPA-free, sterilisation-safe containers in the sub-1,000 mL size range.

Edible Oil and Food-Grade Containers

PET and PETG containers for edible oils, sauces, condiments, and food-grade supplements. The biaxial orientation produced by the stretch-blow step significantly improves the barrier properties of PET against oxygen permeation — a key advantage for extended shelf life in tropical Colombian distribution environments without cold-chain infrastructure.

Specialty and Craft Decorative Bottles

Irregularly shaped bottles, textured surface containers, asymmetric perfume flacons, and premium spirits bottles in coloured or tinted resins. The injection moulding stage gives ISBM a major design freedom advantage: virtually any neck geometry, shoulder shape, or base configuration achievable in an injection mould is replicable in the finished blown container — something that reheat-blow and extrusion-blow processes cannot match.

Water Dispensing Containers (18L / 20L)

Polycarbonate or high-clarity PET containers for home and office water dispensers. The HGY650-V4 large-format ISBM machine produces these containers in 1–4 cavity configurations with bottle heights up to 510mm and neck openings up to 140mm — serving a product category that is a staple of the Colombian bottled water market where mains water quality remains variable.

10. Regulatory Environment for Plastic Bottle Producers

If you are starting a plastic bottle production business in Colombia or supplying to food and pharmaceutical brands across Latin America, understanding the applicable regulatory framework is not optional — it directly affects material specification, equipment selection, and production documentation requirements.

Colombia — INVIMA & ICONTEC

The Instituto Nacional de Vigilancia de Medicamentos y Alimentos (INVIMA) regulates pharmaceutical packaging materials under Decree 677/1995 and subsequent updates. Food-contact plastics are governed by Resolution 683 of 2012 (and resolutions 4143, 4142, 834 of 2013), which establish positive lists of permitted materials, additives, and migration limits based on Regulation (EU) 10/2011 — effectively importing EU food contact standards into Colombian law. PET, PP, and PETG resins used in ISBM production must come from suppliers who provide food-contact compliance documentation aligned with these resolutions.

European Union — Regulation (EU) 10/2011

The EU Plastics Regulation 10/2011 is the global reference standard for food-contact plastics and is explicitly referenced in Colombian food packaging regulations. It establishes overall migration limits (OML ≤ 10 mg/dm²), specific migration limits (SML) for individual substances, and requires a Declaration of Compliance (DoC) from the plastic article manufacturer. Colombian exporters supplying EU-market brands must ensure their ISBM-produced bottles comply fully with this regulation.

USA — FDA 21 CFR Parts 174–179

For bottles exported to or used in the United States market, the FDA’s indirect food additive regulations (21 CFR) govern the permitted resins and additives in food-contact plastics. PET for beverage bottles is covered under 21 CFR 177.1630. Pharmaceutical packaging must comply with USP General Chapter <661> Plastic Packaging Systems and Their Materials of Construction, including extractable and leachable testing requirements that directly inform resin grade selection for ISBM production.

Environmental: Colombia Ley 1819 / Single-Use Plastics

Colombia’s Law 2232 of 2022 phases out single-use plastics in several product categories, but does not restrict multi-use containers, refillable bottles, or packaging for food and pharmaceutical products — the primary applications of ISBM technology. Producers should nonetheless track Decreto 1076 environmental obligations for plastic waste management and consider the strategic advantage of PLA-capable ISBM machines as bio-based packaging demand grows under CONPES 3874 (national waste management policy) incentive frameworks.

Q1. How does a one-step injection stretch blow moulding machine compare with a two-step RSBM line for a new food and beverage packaging startup in Latin America?
+

The one-step process wins on energy consumption (up to 40% less), material flexibility (PP, PC, Tritan, PLA), neck-finish quality, and floor space per unit of output. The two-step RSBM process wins on raw throughput for very high-volume single-SKU PET water bottle or CSD production (millions of identical bottles per day). For most start-ups and mid-size producers in Latin America — where production runs are shorter, SKU diversity is higher, and premium packaging commands better margins — the one-step injection stretch blow molding machine is the more versatile and economically appropriate choice.

Q2. Which ISBM machine model is the best replacement for an ASB injection molding machine currently running cosmetic bottles at my Medellín facility?
+

The answer depends on which specific ASB model you are currently running. For ASB-12M replacement, the HGYS150-V4 or HGY150-V4-EV is the direct functional equivalent with verified mould interchangeability. For ASB-70DPH replacement, the HGY250-V4 is the matched option. Please provide your existing ASB model number, current mould cavity count, and bottle size range when contacting our team — we can confirm mould compatibility and recommend the optimal replacement configuration before you commit to an order.

Q3. What certifications and compliance documents does a new injection stretch blow moulding machine supplier need to provide for pharmaceutical packaging production in Colombia?
+

For pharmaceutical packaging production under INVIMA oversight in Colombia, your equipment supplier should be able to provide: (1) Machine design qualification (DQ) documentation package; (2) Installation qualification (IQ) protocol and completed records; (3) Operational qualification (OQ) protocol with test specifications; (4) CE marking documentation (if applicable to your export markets); (5) Electrical safety certifications; (6) Material safety data for all lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and greases that could contact the container interior. For the fully electric (EV) machine series, the absence of hydraulic fluid substantially simplifies the contamination risk assessment portion of your process validation package.

Q4. What are the injection stretch blow molding products that are most profitable to produce for the Colombian domestic market right now?
+

Based on current market trends in Colombia, the highest-margin ISBM product categories include: (1) BPA-free Tritan reusable water bottles (strong growth driven by single-use plastic awareness); (2) Premium cosmetics containers in PETG for the domestic personal care sector (brands such as Yanbal, Esika, and natural cosmetics producers are actively seeking local supply); (3) Oral pharmaceutical liquid bottles for the generic pharma sector supplying CAFAM, Colsubsidio, and IPS networks; (4) Food supplement and nutraceutical containers in PP (protein powders, vitamins, sports nutrition). All four categories benefit from ISBM’s biaxial orientation strength, clarity, and tight neck tolerances.

Q5. When is the right time to switch from a one-step ISBM machine to a two-step RSBM line as my bottle production volume grows in Latin America?
+

The crossover point typically comes when a single product in standard PET exceeds approximately 8–12 million identical bottles per year at a single container size, and when product variety requirements decrease. At this scale, the higher throughput per investment unit of RSBM linear blow systems becomes competitive. However, many of our largest customers maintain both technologies — ISBM for premium, multi-material, and complex-neck products, and RSBM for high-volume commodity PET. A mixed fleet strategy is often the most commercially resilient approach for growing Latin American packaging businesses.

Q6. How does the injection stretch blow moulding process affect PET barrier properties compared to extrusion blow moulding for food packaging in Colombia?
+

The biaxial stretching in the injection stretch blow molding process aligns PET polymer chains in both the axial and radial directions simultaneously, increasing crystallinity in the amorphous zones and significantly reducing gas permeability. Oxygen transmission rate (OTR) in a biaxially oriented ISBM-produced PET bottle can be 3–5 times lower than an equivalent-gauge extrusion blow moulded HDPE bottle. For food applications in Colombia’s humid tropical climate — where shelf life and product integrity are critical commercial factors — this barrier advantage translates directly into longer distribution windows without the need for expensive modified atmosphere packaging or active oxygen scavenging systems.

Q7. What is the difference between a blue injection stretch blow moulding machine, a white injection stretch blow moulding machine, and a gray injection stretch blow moulding machine — does machine colour affect performance?
+

Machine colour is purely a cosmetic / brand identity choice by the manufacturer and has zero effect on machine performance, accuracy, or longevity. Our current standard production colour is a distinctive blue powder-coat finish, which has become recognisable as a brand identifier in the global ISBM market. Custom colour options (including white, gray, or RAL-specified colours for integration with a customer’s factory colour scheme) are available as a factory option. When comparing suppliers, focus entirely on the technical specifications, service network, and reference customer performance — not the paint colour.
